Thriving in the mystery

Wonder That Outlives Fear

Fear can shrink the world, but wonder reminds us it’s still full of beauty, grace, and God’s quiet presence. This reflection invites readers to pause, breathe, and let awe rise up even in the midst of unanswered prayers or anxious hearts. Wonder doesn’t ignore fear—it simply refuses to be ruled by it. Through scripture and gentle insight, Wonder That Outlives Fear speaks courage to the soul: you don’t have to wait for things to be perfect to feel God’s goodness. You only need to notice it—rising like light through the clouds.

Fear has a loud voice.
It rushes in with its warnings and what-ifs.
It tightens your chest, narrows your vision, and says, “Protect yourself. Pull back. Assume the worst.”

But there’s another voice, softer and older than fear.
The voice of wonder.
It says, “Lift your eyes. There’s still beauty. There’s still more.”

Fear shrinks the world.
Wonder expands it again.

There’s a reason Jesus so often said, “Don’t be afraid.” He wasn’t dismissing our very real anxieties—He was inviting us back to the full, open-hearted life we were made for. A life not ruled by dread but lifted by awe.

“I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears” (Psalm 34:4, NLT).

Fear may not vanish instantly, but wonder gives us oxygen. It slows fear’s grip and fills our lungs with something better: a deeper trust that God is still writing beautiful things—even here.

Wonder isn’t naïve. It knows pain. It’s seen the brokenness. But it keeps showing up to say:
“Look—there’s still light on the leaves.”
“There’s still kindness.”
“There’s still a holy spark in the ordinary.”

Think of the shepherds in the fields that night. The world hadn’t changed. Rome still ruled. Injustice still reigned. But heaven cracked open with light and music and the unthinkable announcement of peace (Luke 2:8–14).

Fear had every reason to reign.
But wonder showed up anyway.
And it outlived fear.

Maybe that’s what your heart needs today—not perfect answers, but permission to wonder again. To let joy peek through the cracks. To notice the small mercies tucked into your ordinary:

  • A warm mug in your hands.

  • A verse that hits you in just the right spot.

  • A laugh that surprises you like grace falling out of nowhere.

Let yourself notice. Let your heart soften. Let fear keep its noise—but let wonder win.

Because fear will always offer urgency.
But wonder whispers eternity.

And the longer we walk with Jesus, the more we realize:
We were not made for panic—we were made for awe.
Even in pain.
Even in delay.
Even when tomorrow is unclear.

So today, ask God for a fresh glimpse. Not of the whole plan, but of His presence. Ask for eyes that still see beauty, even when the world is trembling. Ask for the courage to wonder again.

Let it outlast the fear.
Let it carry you through the mystery.

Because where fear ends, wonder begins—and God is always on the other side.

Watch "The Chosen"

The Chosen is a groundbreaking series that portrays the life of Jesus with emotional depth and cultural realism. While creatively dramatized, it remains deeply rooted in the biblical narrative, drawing from Scripture to bring the Gospels to life in a way that’s both accessible and reverent.
