The Simple Version

We like to say faith is complicated. It lets us off the hook.

But it was never complicated. Love God. Love your neighbor. Tend to the least of these. A child understands it.

We made it complicated on purpose — because the simple version asks for everything, and the complicated version lets us argue instead of obey.

It's easier to debate the meaning of a verse than to go do what it plainly says.
